Mrs. Susan Hawkins, widow of the late Rev. Robert Hawkins of the Washington annual conference, died suddenly on Friday the 12th inst., at 11.30 p.m., at her late residence 1377 N. Carey street. Her funeral took place on Monday afternoon from the Sharp St. Memorial church. Mrs. Hawkins was converted in the Jackson street M.E. church, Lynchburg, Va., many years ago and retained her membership there, altho an itinerant minister’s wife, and after the death of her husband, which occurred 11 years ago, she became a regular communicant of Sharp street church. She leaves to mourn her loss two sons, Messrs. W. Ashbie Hawkins of the Baltimore bar and Royal Hawkins, of Philadelphia; five daughters: Mrs. Lucy S. Voderry, Miss Susie Hawkins, of Baltimore, Mrs. Sarah Moles, of Atlantic City, Mrs. Nannie B. Brown of Washington. The funeral was conducted by Revs. Dr. Thomas and Dr. W. M. Alexander, who spoke beautifully of her Christian and neighborly character. The Washington annual conference was largely represented. Interment at Sharp street cemetery.
