Funeral of John L. Young
The funeral of John L. Young, colored, who died Wednesday at his home, 424 West Cross street, took place yesterday afternoon. The body was laid in state at the John Wesley Methodist Episcopal Church, Sharp and Montgomery streets, from 1 to 3 P.M., and was viewed by over 2,000 persons. The funeral oration was preached by Rev. Ernest Lyon, colored, pastor of the church. He chose for his text the words "And Enoch walked with the Lord" Short eulogies were also delivred by Revs. Robert Steel, J. Watters, P. G. Ryder and Joseph Wheeler, colored. The pallbearers were George E. Johnson, John Chew, Washington Lee, H. L. Boyer, Wesley Brooks and Alfred Reed. Interment was made in Sharp Street Cemetery. John H. Toadvin, colored, undertaker, had charge of the funeral arrangements.
