REV. ARTHUR JONES
 
The funeral of Rev. Arthur Jones who died suddenly in Washington on Wednesday of last week, where he had been attending the Baltimore Annual Conference of the A.M.E. Church, took place n Saturday afternoon from Ebenezer A.M.E. Church, Montgomery street near Hanover. The funeral was preached by Bishop J. A. Handy, who in the course of his remarks eulogized the Christian character and services of the deceased mininster. Other eulogistic remarks were made by Rev. Drs. J. H. Collett, Rev. J. Albert Johnson, J. W. Beckett, G. W. Nicholson, John Hurst, J. T. Jenifer and Revs. C. H. Murray, C. H. Young, and Rev. S. H. Cooper who has just succeeded Rev. Jones at Havre de Grace; Rev. O. W. J. Scott sang "Sweet peace, the gift of God's love." Rev. Mr. Jones was born in Calvert county 62 years ago and was one of the most influential ministers of the Baltimore conference for the past 34 years. His grand father came from the West Coast of Africa and fought in the Revolutionary War; his father fought in the war of 1812. The pallbearers were members of the Baltimore conference. The interment was in Mt. Auburn cemetery.
